Opportunities through athletics
Sport Inclusion Australia (SIA) is an inclusion partner, and thanks to the generous Australian Government funding through Team Up, SIA’s Included Through Sport Solomon Islands program with be delivered in partnership with Oceania Athletics and Athletics Solomon Islands.
The Program's primary goal is to raise awareness of the ability of inclusive sport to change attitudes, challenge perceptions, and strengthen communities using the sport of (Athletics) as the medium.
The Program will provide key stakeholders in-country with the knowledge and tools they need to offer options and opportunities for individuals living with a disability both visible and non-visible, to participate in sport.
Addressing issues of gender equality, social inclusion, and accessibility. The Program focuses on empowering communities and sport stakeholders to create safe, accessible, and inclusive sport at all levels, including elite levels for athletes with a disability who have the potential for careers beyond participation.
The Program will:
- deliver professional development and capacity building workshops,
- promote the health, wellbeing and social benefits of being included in sport,
- create competition pathways for athletes with an intellectual impairment.
The project will also collaborate with Solomon Island Paralympic Committee, Oceania Paralympic Committee, and Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport, to support the sustainability for this capacity building program.
